The Coffee Cup restaurant was established in 1944 by Wade Cagle, featuring a traditional café design of the time with a dining room facing a full-length counter and grill area. Over the years, operating hours changed, eventually focusing on serving breakfast by the late 90s. In 1999, former University of Michigan and NBA basketball player Oliver Darden purchased the restaurant and, after some renovations, started serving lunch again with Roy Cooley as the operating manager.
