I hadn't been in this pub for decades as I'd lived abroad for many years. In the 70's this was the home of Camra, the Campaign for real ale and was full of large men with beards, beer bellies, roll-ups and leather pouches for their tobacco and various sundry items. I went recently into the Golden Star for a nice drink. I had fond memories of coming to this pub in the 1970s/80s when I was a young man. In those days it was a lovely, welcoming place to be.
