My server, Mark, was great. He clearly understood celiac worries and immediately offered to go, the kitchen have a dedicated pot oil for Jalapeno frit when I asked if they were a separate frit. I felt very safe after our conversation. The dishes and beverages were good in themselves (the frit and the "classical" Charcuterie board), and the gluten-free sourdough from a local bakery was a masterpiece in its own right.... It was nice enough we asked to sit outside and hoped to be on the back patio but were sat on the front instead with a good view of the alley. This wasn 't really the restaurant 's fault as we mentioned not wanting to be in too close confines due to COVID concerns. The drinks were stellar! The food was very lacklustre. Our afternoon at the Black Cauldron was simply lovely. Our server was so knowledgeable about the food and drink and the service was attentive without being hovering. The ambiance was quiet at 3:30-5 when we were there and we felt relaxed and never rushed. The cocktails were amazing! And we’d go back just for those, but the food was so delicious I’m sure we’d order something to eat again too! My husband had the prize winning burger and I had a scrumptious meat and cheese board.
Such a wonderful atmosphere. We enjoyed the former restaurant here for many years. The service was very uneven mistakes were made, at times it prompt and at other times slow. My husband ordered a non alcoholic drink. He thought it had alcohol in it but I thought he was imagining things until we saw the charge for an alcoholic drink on the bill. The cocktail I had was awesome as was my husband’s. The phyllo cup appetizers similarly very tasty. The kale and quinoa salad was edible but nothing spectacular. The vegan mezze platter was another thing. It was $32 for a double and mostly consisted of two dips both of which looked unappetizing and lacked any flavour. The candied walnuts were good but the other components were mostly fresh vegetables and bread. We will definitely not be returning.
This restaurant is a fantastic new addition to Nelson. I had a wonderful time and enjoyed the delicious food and excellent service. The tarot reading was also a fun experience.
