We found this small restaurant while looking for an Asian evening meal.As we entered we were greeted by very friendly staff who wasted no time in providing a menu and chilled water! Our choice of meals resulted in prompt service with steaming hot bowls of food. No hint of greasy stuff. We went here for a Sunday lunch on a cold day and had crab and sweet corn soup. It was lovely and warmed us up. As the main we had Chicken and Ginger, Basil and Chilli. It was predominantly basil flavoured and very tasty. We paired this with the normal fried rice which was also very delicious. Went with friends as we heard it was a great place to eat. Between us we ordered laksa, fried rice, dumplings, crackling pork, BBQ pork, lobster dumplings and crispy chicken.- dumplings were bland and watery - BBQ pork was delicious (came in a sauce)- crispy chicken wasn't crispy, but soggy and the ginger shallot sauce average- lobster dumplings were nice - crackling pork was great but they could only offer one portion as there was none left (we arrived at 7pm)- fried rice was average. Oily with some mixed veg and specs of chicken. No mention upon ordering food that bill couldn't be split. There was no reservation computer, just eftpos machine, register and calculator (which they used to total the bill). They wouldn't allow us to split the bill despite having to use the calculator to tell us how much we individually owed and then swiped the one of our cards to cover the amount. We pointed out that had we have ordered take away individually they would have let us pay seperate! Had they have been busy we would have understood but we were the only people in the restaurant! To be brutally honest the Asian food at the star buffet has more flavour and it would have been a fraction of the cost and included dessert!
What a disgusting thing to find! Do not eat here! The only thing worse than finding maggots in your food is the attitude of the guy behind the counter not really caring. They did give us a full refund but it did seem like this had happened before as he was very unconcerned with the hole situation. Avoid this place!
Love this restaurant, it is usually our restaurant of choice for a Friday night treat. Love the honey king prawns and Char Koy Teow.
I just had the Roast Duck for lunch today. It was the best Roast Duck in Canberra after looking for a good Cantonese place for months! Spoke to the chef and he is from Hong Kong! :
Fabulous, really great food at a great price Orient Kitchen has become a regular dinner venue for us!
