Stayed at Eshott Hall for our wedding anniversary and had a dinner included as part of the deal. Excellent in all respects. Chef produced lovely flavour blends. The two staff on duty worked relentlessly to please all. Wine available by the glass at reasonably good prices Really recommend it View all feedback.
What BillNorthumberland dislikes about Eshott Hall:
We enjoyed lunch at the restaurant, especially the food. All three course were well made and beautifully presented. The weakness with this establishment is the waiting staff; we ordered drinks and I was asked if I wanted a glass for my bottled beer, then a waitress knocked my wife's coat off the back of her chair and although fully aware of what was done failed to pick it up and once we hand finished our meal and eve... My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the high quality food at this restaurant. We spent three nights here and also found the breakfasts to be enjoyable, with friendly and approachable service from the staff. We were pleased to find that Eshott Hall is very welcoming to dogs.
Unfortunately, the restaurant no longer offers an all-day menu as stated on their website. Therefore, we will be taking our business elsewhere.
The Sunday lunch menu offered a delicious variety of dishes. The Stilton and mushroom arancini were tasty and generously portioned, although the terrine serving was on the small side. The daube of beef and pork belly main courses were delightful, as were the chocolate fondant desserts (absolutely perfect). However, the overall experience was marred by the empty dining room, the profanity from the kitchen upon our arrival, and the inattentive staff. One waitress kept disappearing and had to be called back by the chef to serve us, as she ignored our increasingly louder requests for assistance. Additionally, there was a receptionist walking around with a can of soda and a manageress carrying a sheet of paper, both of whom were nowhere to be found when we needed to pay our bill. It's disappointing that the chef's excellent food and the charming old building are let down by unprofessional and inattentive staff.
Eshott Hall is in a beautiful setting. The decoration is stunning and the food outstanding. The gardeners were hard at work when we arrived, the gardens are very pretty and well tended. We were greeted by a male member of staff who was very friendly and polite, he brought our drinks, and advised us on local places to visit.A female staff member took our food order, again friendly. The same lady returned to take us to our table and announced 'I haven 't brought a tray to carry your drinks '. We followed her to a lovely window table looking onto the garden. The same lady brought our starters, Prawn Cocktail , on the same plate was a whole slice of sour dough bread which was served without butter and no butter was offered. I would say the restaurant is fine dining so I thought this was unusual.Overall a lovely place and fab food.
We love Eshott Hall and today we took my mother in law for a belated Mother’s Day lunch. The ambience was, as always, relaxed and restful. We had Sunday lunch and in the main it was a good lunch. Only two small complaints firstly the cauliflower cheese was cold but in with the rest of the meal I could accept that. Secondly, I ordered fruit salad, berries were mentioned as part of the dish. I did get fruit, a bowl of assembled fruit. There was no syrup or liquid of any sort with the fruit. I had thought maybe a little jug of cream or similar might have come along but the fruit was just put in a bowl. Apple slices, orange segments, raspberries, very soft strawberry slices (frozen? and nectarine slices, as I say, put in a bowl. It was disappointing and would need little effort to make it acceptable, not what I had expected.
