Second Cup in Moncton's Gorge Road faces criticism for not honoring customer loyalty cards due to changes in the rewards program. I love this location...if I visit inside. We find the drive through very slow in comparison. The drinks are delicious and the food also.
I wasn't impressed when i drove up to drive through and was greeted with bonjour and then a speal of french. I sat there waiting for the english that eventually came with a question of hello? Since when is the middle of moncton a french community? If you want to identify your store as french I won't be spending my money here.
I love Second Cup. I just don't love this location on Gorge Road in Moncton, due to ownership. The rewards program changed (changes from the head office) on 21/04. Went there 2 weeks ago and bought 4 drinks, used my punch cards. I had 3 free drinks at the time, but told staff I wanted to keep them. No one informed us that the rewards program was changing soon. Went today and tried to use a card for a free drink - they told us they did not honor those anymore under strict direction from the owners. If I had known, I would have used my 3 free drinks last time. While I understand the rewards program is changing (which by the way will take twice the amount of coffees to get a free one), it would just have been common sense and good customer service to honor the cards that were already started.I went to another Second Cup location in the same city (different owner/manager) and used their card. While they couldn't punch it anymore (there were 2 punches on there already), they gave us 1$ off of our coffee which was appreciated. The amount of money is minimal, it's just the principle. Apparently Second Cup on Gorge Road does not care about their loyal customers. Fortunately, there are plenty of coffee chains/shops around Moncton
The coffee and food are decent, but it's the atmosphere that really draws you in. This upscale establishment is perfect for meeting over coffee, and the prices ensure a select clientele.
Today, I visited the drive-thru with my fiancée because we had a gift card to use. After waiting for 5 minutes on the loudspeaker behind another car, we finally placed our order with the employee. When we reached the window, I informed her that we had a gift card and wanted to pay the remaining balance with my debit card. However, she seemed confused and insisted that we had to pay using only the debit card. I suggested that she try scanning the gift card, but she continued to insist on debit payment only. There were no attempts to ask for help or offer any alternatives. As someone who has worked in the food service industry for many years, I was surprised by the lack of customer service skills displayed. Overall, we were not impressed and believe that the employees could benefit from some training on how to handle gift card payments and improve their customer service skills.
