Campanile is located in a historic and captivating structure built in 1929 by architect Roy Sheldon Price for Hollywood legend Charlie Chaplin. Originally intended as a mixed-use site by Chaplin, the building was eventually transformed into a magical space for a bakery and restaurant by Executive Chef Mark Peel, Pastry Chef Nancy Silverton, and Wine Director Manfred Krankl in the late 1980s. La Brea Bakery opened in January 1989, followed by Campanile six months later. In the past two decades, both the restaurant and its Executive Chef, Mark Peel, have earned numerous awards, including the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Restaurant Award in 2001, the Los Angeles Culinary Master of the Year, and Food & Wine's Best New Chefs. Campanile has also been nominated for several prestigious awards, such as the James Beard Foundation's Outstanding Wine Service Award and the Best California Chef Award.

Let us also foreword that La Brea Bakery is next door and of course the bread for the grill cheese is from this bakery.
