A charming, friendly neighborhood restaurant located from the tourist areas. Now called “BeDois” but still owned by the same family. We did not stumble far from our hotel and were immediately greeted by the owner who led us through the menus, made recommendations and treated us like license. The food was absolutely delicious. A note- they do not accept non-Portuguese credit cards so bring cash. View all feedback.
Such a find!!! A lovely intimate dark place with approx tables and fabulous jazz over the sound system. Superb couverts here for a starter. A handwritten daily menu with Portuguese specials gives you eight to ten choices. My choice was prawn fejoida which was...fabulous!! Also gorgeous wine, I was given a choice of two as he opened a new bottle I paid by the glass huge glasses. Photo shows a nearly eaten meal I’m afraid!! The whole experience was superb. We read about Lisbon’s Batata Doce in the Washington Post. The chef is an Angolan refugee, and her husband runs the dining room with a very dry sense of humor and a lot of opinion. The room only seats and at least walk-ins...were turned away the night we were there. The menu is a little limited, but still offers enough variety to be fun. When I asked the chef and her husband to sign our menu and let me take it home, he balked. Because it was the only menu. He hand-wrote it, and he only had one copy for the evening. Of course we had the Chicken Muamba, a spiced Angolan chicken stew. The proprietor convinced us that we had to have deep fried cod cakes, and they were tasty. Entrees of shrimp curry and fish were similarly enjoyable. The rather strange poi-like starch served separately was not our favorite, but we were game. Although we are very knowledgeable about wine, we allowed the husband to exercise his choices for us, and he did well. It was an intimate and enjoyable evening, the type that gives tourists lasting memories. Oh, and when the handwritten bill came, for two bottles of wine, appetizers, bread, and entrees, it was euros. For four adults.

We visited this restaurant for late lunch and were warmly welcomed as well as given place on recommendations to order. what looks like a traditional Portuguese place is in fact a perfect combination of Angolan, Brazilian and Portuguese cuisine, so we were. very surprised at the variety of tastes offered to us. both the eating and the wine were excellent, and we were made very enthusiastic and friendly for all who worked in the restaurant, it was a great experience. for, obrigada!
There is something very special when you eat somewhere where the owners are passionate and proud of the food they offer...this is one of those places ...enjoy
