Great for visitors looking to taste the local spirit! Friendly staff with knowledge of sakes made for an enjoyable tasting. Flights are 1000-2000yen, so you can economically try a variety of flavors. Lovely interior with comfortable sofa chairs and a bar.
Exceptional. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about sake, and has an amazing collection of sake. She speaks great English, and is very talkative, which is very nice if you're a lone traveller who don't speak Japanese. You can try a bunch of sake in small tastings. I ended up trying 10 different sake, all amazingly delicious. To top it all of, the prices are cheap as well! If you like sake and are in Kyoto, this is a must visit!
This place has set menus where you can pay 1100 yen (tax included) for 3 shot sized samples of 3 different sake. The problem with this place is the menu doesn’t allow you to select your own varieties, and the sake they chose for you is the cheapest and nastiest of the selection. I asked for a sweet and delicious sake recommendation from the bar tender, who promoted one particular sake for me to try. This sake, however, was 770 yen for one shot. If this sake wasn’t so delicious, I would have given this place 2 stars. I then asked about where to buy this sake and the bar tender told me it isn’t available for public. A little research contradicted this, showing the 500ml bottle available in limited quantities for around 2000-2500 yen for a bottle in 1 bottle shop in Kyoto. Paid the equivalent of $24 Australian dollars for 4 shots. To put this in perspective... In Shibuya, Tokyo, you can pay 1100 yen for 30 minutes of unlimited sake sampling at Kurand sake market which has limited edition sake, with a variety of 100 sake available for sampling. Would not recommend this place if you have an idea of what you like when it comes to sake. Will upload the photo of the delicious (sweet) sake that I tried here for those interested in a decent sake recommendation.
This a nice relaxed bar to drink sake and watch the sumo while it's on. They have sake tasting flights, and some Japanese bar food.
