Howie's - Jay
Howie's
Description
Perched by the mountain near Hotel Jay, this tavern offers a convivial, sports-bar atmosphere and a generous breakfast buffet alongside pub staples—nachos, burgers, Nashville hot sliders and an indulgent grilled cheese. Service is frequently friendly and efficient but can be stretched thin on busy nights, and food quality is inconsistent: some dishes shine while others arrive underwhelming or lukewarm. With TVs, a patio fireplace and roomy portions, it’s a convenient, social spot for groups and hotel guests—though expect hit-or-miss value.

The waitstaff is insufficient to serve everyone when the restaurant is busy. The food is decent, and the portion sizes are quite large! If you're not very hungry, it's better to share dishes with friends. I recommend the nachos. The burger is good, but the chicken quesadilla is a bit too salty. I also had breakfast there two days in a row; overall, it was good, but the fruit wasn't fresh and had an unpleasant smell.
The food was quite disappointing. While the service was good, the quality of the dishes was terrible. I ordered poutine fries, but the cheese was cold and not melted, and both the fries and gravy were served at a low temperature. I also got chicken fingers for my child, but I couldn't even identify the meat inside; it resembled some kind of chicken paste. Overall, the food was very disappointing, and considering the high prices, I would not return.
The atmosphere is quite lively, resembling a sports bar. The food is on the pricier side; I paid around $14 for three small tacos, which were underwhelming and not very filling. The meat was quite fatty. I didn't have high expectations, but it was literally the only place within walking distance around the resort that was open for food. There's a door in the bar that leads directly to a patio with a fireplace, which is a nice spot to relax—though I'm not sure if it’s part of the restaurant. I do appreciate that they were showing the Russia vs. USA hockey game from the Sochi Olympics back in 2014 when I visited three weeks ago. Overall, the vibe is enjoyable, but the food left much to be desired.
