Where do I even begin to describe this saga we booked a room at the Flamingo Inn for three nights for a field research trip. Upon checking in, we peeled up the... read more Where do I even begin to describe this saga we booked a room at the Flamingo Inn for three nights for a field research trip. Upon checking in, we peeled up the sheets and inspected the creases of the mattresses for bed bugs. While we didn’t find any bugs themselves (they are nocturnal), we did come across small yellow crusts that looked like they might be bug molts as well as small reddish stains like the kind you get when bugs are squished. We decided not to risk it, and found an excellent place to camp down the road. At the front desk about two hours later, I asked if we could check out and get a refund for the room since we would not be using it. The staff were unable to issue a refund because the booker (our lab advisor) was not physically present on the trip with his ID. So we said okay, we’ll use the room to shower in the evenings after getting back from field work. This was fine for two nights. Then yesterday, covered in dirt, I swiped into the room for a shower only to find a stranger lying in the bed! They had checked us out without notifying us and checked in a new guest, but not revoked our swipe access! Which makes me wonder and worry about the security of the rooms in general. At least they issued us a refund for this final night. I have stayed at some crusty motels before, but the experience with service here was a new low. Save yourself the trouble and sleep elsewhere.

Even when I ask for no straw I get a straw, times are changing and it would be great to see every one doing their part.
