Was Nicholas Skidmore at Hong Kong Chef a mag?
This was my first visit and I ordered my meals. A set meal for one from old menu which was no problem for the staff. Also a special chow mein and salt and pepper squid. Lovely meal and flavours plenty to eat and nice piece of chicken in the chicken and mushrooms. Squid beautifully cooked though will ask for no chillies next time. Have used this chinese for over 20 years when known as Kwok Wah and Hong Kong Chef, even driving from out of the area as the Chinese chips and curry were legendary, however new owner has changed the food, and although nice, it just wasn't the same and not worth coming from afar any more. I’ve been a patron of this Chinese restaurant for over 20 years, back when it was known as Kwok Wah and Hong Kong Chef, even driving from out of town because their Chinese chips and curry were legendary. Unfortunately, under new ownership, the food has changed. While still pleasant, it’s just not the same anymore and no longer worth traveling a long distance for. The food is okay but no longer lives up to its legendary reputation. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £10–20
This was my first visit to Hong Kong Chef and I ordered a set meal for one from the old menu, which the staff handled without any issues. I also tried the special chow mein and salt and pepper squid. The meal was delicious with plenty of food, including a nicely cooked piece of chicken in the chicken and mushrooms dish. The squid was perfectly cooked, although next time I’ll request no chilies.
