What Josette Courtois dislikes about Al Farid:
Read the reviews and we decided to visit on very busy Saturday , luckly they had a cancellation and put on the waiting list. Resturant was very busy but service was so smooth. i found some reviews are very unkind and when i see how this independent resturant in such beautifull characterful building runs by very hard working staff ,who are none stop try to please the customers , i decided to give this resturant 10 out... I first visited this restaurant in 2016 and I was a bit dissapointed because the menu was limmited and, on that occasion, the food was not cooked as I thought it should have been. Today I had something to celebrate and I decided to read the menu online to see if something changed because the atmosphere and decor was (and still is) authentic amazing, arranged in a fusion of Middle Eastern Morrocan style. The menu was different so I gave it another chance; and I am happy I did!!! The food is tasty, healthy and looks appetizing. Most of all they have variety so even a fussy person will find plenty of intriguing options to choose from. We will go back because there are still many more tempting dishes to try. It is also worth mentioning the staff were very friendly, courteous and eager to please. In conclusion, a little hidden gem, in the Exeter city centre, well worth seeking out. Thank you, Al Farid ! *Update: we went back today for a meal and it was fantastic! Richard went above beyond to make everything perfect. I called in a few hours before to ask if they can improvise a cake and when they brought the dessert one had a in it; they sang with us and they even bought a birthday card!! In business as in life little things weigh a lot so thank you, my darlings, for being so sweet and running this business in such an amazing way!
Popped in after 8pm on a Saturday night on the off chance for a table of two. Obviously they were full but asked to take a seat and they would see what they could do. Ordered two bottles of Moroccan lager which was fab, far to drinkable and given menus to check out. Waited maybe 10 minutes then told they had a table for us. Chose dishes off the meze menu including fig and cheese parcels which were fab and one of the best houmous I have tasted. Great service in a fantastic atmosphere, would happily eat here again and again. Thank you guys
Read the reviews and we decided to visit on very busy Saturday , luckly they had a cancellation and put on the waiting list. Resturant was very busy but service was so smooth. i found some reviews are very unkind and when i see how this independent resturant in such beautifull characterful building runs by very hard working staff ,who are none stop try to please the customers , i decided to give this resturant 10 out of 10, as i feel i absouley step to Marakesh. staff are friendly and knowledgeable who are care about the business, we order some tagine and a few mezze and they all cooked perfectly and serve very quick. Their kiss by rose cocktail must try. overal thank you to all alfarid team and i highly recommend this resturant and i must visited again. Rob
I visited this restaurant for lunch with my family and it was a great choice. We opted for the set menu for 4 people, and the starters were so filling that they could have been a main course on their own. For the main course, we ordered the mixed shish and two tagines - one with lamb and one vegetarian. The meat was cooked perfectly, with the lamb literally falling off the bone. It felt like a lavish feast. To end the meal, we enjoyed a refreshing mint tea.
This restaurant claiming to serve Moroccan cuisine is not authentic at all. Despite the appearance of the restaurant being Moroccan-themed, the food did not live up to expectations and seemed to be a poor imitation of true Moroccan dishes. Everything we tried was subpar, and the dessert served at the end appeared to be store-bought and stale. To make matters worse, the tea was disappointing and the service was forgetful. Overall, we were highly disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
