Last night, we had the pleasure of dining at Monsoon. Our waiter was excellent—very friendly and knowledgeable about the different tandoori and curry dishes. When we asked for the bill, the server presented us with a charge of $285, but the debit machine showed $328. When we inquired about the discrepancy, he explained that he had included a mandatory 15% gratuity. My concern is that tipping should never be mandatory, even at five-star restaurants.
