SALT is an acronym for Seasonal, Artisanal, Local and Thoughtful and these values are at the core of everything we do. Salt Café is our flagship restaurant in Morningside, Edinburgh. We offer a variety of freshly made food throughout the day, including brunch, coffee, cocktails, and desserts. Our establishment is dog-friendly and proudly supports Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended to ensure a table. In addition to our restaurant, we have three renovated police boxes named A Pinch of Salt that provide takeout coffee and baked goods sourced directly from our cafe. These boxes are conveniently located in Tollcross, Morningside, and Princes St.

We made a reservation online for a weekend brunch and were seated in the cozy far end section. The prices are high and the portion sizes are not generous. While the presentation of the dishes is great, the taste is lacking. The fluffy pancakes are average and not amazing, but the yogurt and compote stand out. The full breakfast is also average and not exceptional, with only the mushrooms on the plate being worth recommending. Overall, the restaurant is highly overrated and overpriced for the quality of the food offered. If you live nearby, it may be worth a walk-in visit to try, but I would not recommend booking in advance or making a special trip to visit just for the food. There are much better dining options available elsewhere.
The warm reception, prompt service, and delicious food at this restaurant make it a must-visit. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it.
