Nestled in Eagle River, this restaurant promises a mix of comfort and quality, though recent experiences reveal areas for improvement. Diners have praised the attentive service and an impressive wine selection, while the atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and upscale. However, inconsistencies in food quality, such as poorly seasoned dishes and disproportionate cheese on pizzas, have left some customers disappointed. The menu could benefit from a broader variety of entrees and appetizers. Despite these concerns, many visitors rave about standout items like blackened shrimp fettuccine and crab cakes, hinting at the restaurant's potential as a fine dining destination.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we had to find our own table because the hostess was not doing her job. She simply pointed to a table on the other side of the bar and told us to sit there. The blackened chicken macaroni dish we ordered had a small amount of blackening seasoning on the chicken which was mostly washed off by the macaroni and cheese, resulting in a lack of seasoning flavor. The pizza we ordered had very little cheese but lots of toppings, although the flavor was still good. The waitstaff was excellent and provided great service, earning 5 stars for their efforts. However, the lack of seasoning on the chicken and cheese on the pizza was disappointing, and we do not plan on returning unless there are changes made to the menu, such as more appetizer options, fewer salads, and additional entree choices.
The food at this restaurant is excellent. We tried crab cakes, French onion soup, caprese, and fettuccine, all of which tasted fantastic. The staff was friendly and the raspberry lemonade was also good. On our next visit, the filet mignon was fantastic as well. We tried a couple of different wines and they were accurately described on the menu and tasted great. The cheese platter was much better than the one at the Crow's Nest. The only complaint we had was the goat cheese on the pizza, as we believe goat cheese should not be on pizza.
This is hands down the best place in the city, especially when dining with Jimmy. My wife and I recently revisited Bottom 48 and we've been missing it terribly since. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food and service are both fantastic. The owner is incredibly personable as well. They even remembered us when we returned, and I'm hoping they've added something new to the menu since our last visit.
Great wine selection, atmosphere and service. just knock out a star because the food proportions sizes vs. price slightly exaggerated. that's said eating is good!
