The atmosphere of the restaurant seems in need of some updates, as it felt rather dark even during lunchtime. On a positive note, the service was good and prompt. However, I found it unusual that this Japanese restaurant is primarily run by Hispanic staff; I didn't see a single Japanese individual, which might explain the experience. In contrast, I often visit Rock n Roll Sushi across town, which has consistently delivered a fantastic experience, even without any Japanese staff. Next time, I think I’ll just make the drive to Rock n Roll Sushi for a much better lunch. I would suggest skipping this place for a more enjoyable dining experience.
I don't usually write reviews, but I had to share my experience at this Japanese restaurant—it was the worst I've ever had. I ordered shrimp and fried snapper hibachi, but they served small salad shrimp that were overcooked and lacked any seasoning. The fried snapper was not fresh and also tasteless. My wife ordered a medium-well steak, but it arrived well-done instead. The server appeared to have little training and struggled to answer our questions about the menu. The manager—or whoever she was—didn't seem to care that our food was lacking in flavor, quality, and proper preparation; she simply walked away. I decided not to leave a tip. I’m puzzled by the positive reviews this place has received and wonder if people in lower Alabama have different standards for food. If anyone reading this has high expectations for dining, I urge you: DO NOT come here. If you value good food, steer clear of this restaurant.
I want to start by saying that we've been loyal customers of Kinza for years, especially during the time our child was in the NICU, when we visited at least twice a week. Just two weeks ago, we had a seamless experience and spent $45 on our meals. However, today we returned and ordered less, yet ended up paying $72, which left us very disappointed. The food was not up to par and, quite frankly, the service was lacking. My husband even had to search for a high chair because the staff didn’t show us where to find one or bring it over when we requested it. I understand that restaurants can have off days, but given the price we paid, we expected at least a decent meal. Unfortunately, both my child and I haven't felt well since eating there. We will not be returning.
