Michael Jay's - Connell
Michael Jay's
Description
Once a beloved local spot under different ownership, the restaurant has reopened as a Mexican eatery offering flavorful, handmade-tortilla dishes—fresh beans, rice, chips and standout shrimp—alongside occasional burgers. Diners praise the food but report inconsistent, often slow service from a friendly yet understaffed team, occasional order errors, and outdated online hours. A great stop for road-trippers and fans of authentic Mexican flavors if you’re not in a hurry; not the place for a rushed meal.

The previous owners have retired and sold the restaurant, which is great for them! I'll really miss the original Michael Jay's, as I've been coming here since I was a kid. It has now transformed into a Mexican restaurant. I stopped by after a photography session in Connell, and this place has always been my go-to when I'm in town. I had no idea they had changed hands, but we decided to give it a shot. I’m giving it a five-star rating based solely on the food. However, the service was quite slow. It was a Saturday afternoon, and there were only two other tables occupied besides ours, yet it took an hour for our food to arrive. I must say, when it finally came, it was probably the best Mexican food I’ve ever had! I ordered garlic shrimp, but I think they mistakenly brought me spicy shrimp (there was a bit of a communication barrier, but we did our best!). The dish came with fresh beans, rice, good sour cream, and delicious salsa chips. The server was friendly and clearly trying hard, but it was just him and the cook, so they really need at least one more person to help out. I know that can be difficult to manage sometimes. Overall, our dinner experience took two hours. I would definitely consider eating here again, as long as I'm not in a hurry.
This is a Mexican restaurant, and if you're looking for breakfast, you might want to consider other options.
The food here is wonderfully flavorful, featuring hand-made tortillas. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. Overall, it's a fantastic place to dine.
It's not A American dining it's a new restaurant Mexican food but they served hamburgers They haven't changed the information in the internet. I Thought electronics will be much faster but ibiously is not..have coffee bar for drinks is separated is big enough. Just ask and they will try to please you..
Just a heads up: I visited this place three years ago and loved it! However, it's now a Mexican restaurant, which we weren't expecting. I ordered a burger, but it was pretty basic and priced at $15, which I found to be not worth it. We weren’t really in the mood for Mexican food, so that might have affected our experience. Regardless, everything felt overpriced.
