Junebug Cafe - Chicago
Junebug Cafe
Description
Junebug blends New Orleans flavors with a cozy coffeehouse vibe on Irving Park Rd. Standout dishes—gumbo, muffaletta and po' boys—and a tasty cafe au lait draw regulars, though beignets and some breakfast items can feel dense or small. Guests note inconsistent service, occasional overcooked proteins, confusing menu labeling and higher prices, plus a removed biscuits‑and‑gravy item. Popular for lunch, takeout and casual work sessions, the spot is lively and convenient but would benefit from clearer menus and steadier kitchen and front‑of‑house consistency.

OMG these beignets are so good I could cry.BETTER THAN THE ONES I HAD IN NEW ORLEANS!!!They were fresh and hot when I got them. Not too fried or greasy — dense yet fluffy texture PERFECTION ?The handpie though was a bit too deep fried for me ?
I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, along with beignets and coffee. The food was exceptional, and I will definitely be back!
This cozy little coffee shop is located on the bustling stretch of Irving Park Rd in Portage Park. They serve an excellent Cafe Au Lait that is inspired by the New Orleans coffee style. Definitely try adding lavender to it—it's delicious! The shop also offers a good amount of gumbo and beignets, making it a popular spot that’s always lively.
The new location on Milwaukee is great, a bit lighter and busier. Beignets and biscuits are fantastic. Great coffee too. If I had one complaint, it's a very small one. There's no need to staple the paper to-go bags. They're just destined to tear, especially if you hope to save something for later. Definitely recommend for everyone in the neighborhood and beyond.
