I ordered the cauliflower, chickpeas, and fennel dish, which was absolutely delicious. I wasn't a fan of the added falafel. We sat on the covered terrace with amazing views, while the interior was cozy and inviting. The staff was friendly and attentive. Another vegan option was a tasty salad. The food is all handmade. This was our second visit in 3 days, and our experience was roughly the same. A number of the mains and sides were not available. I’ve never been anywhere that has run out of mashed potatoes before! We decided to visit L'Abri because it is one of the few restaurants in Cheticamp that offers vegan options. When I visited, the only dish explicitly labeled as vegan on the menu was the veggie samosas, but many vegetarian dishes can be customized to be made vegan. I opted for the strawberry-arugula salad without feta cheese and the tofu quinoa bowl without sesame aioli. The staff is well-informed about which menu items are vegan-friendly. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant boasts lovely ocean views and a cozy, inviting ambiance. If you're lucky, you may even catch a sunset over the ocean on a clear evening.
The restaurant is beautifully located and decorated, with a great beer and wine selection. It used to be the only good option for vegans in the area, but we were told by our server that the kitchen has faced some recent challenges and had to make changes. This left us with limited options for vegetarians and no clearly marked vegan dishes, despite the menu guide indicating that items marked with 'VE' are vegan friendly. When we asked to make the veggie options vegan friendly, all we were left with was a potentially vegan burger on a bun. The only other option was a dish of brussel sprouts without cheese, bacon, or aioli, resulting in dry, crispy brussel sprouts that were disappointing and not worth getting excited over.

2 years later, and just as good if not better. L'abri had done an amazing job through the pandemic at creating delicious food and wonderful service. I can't even describe how good this restaurant is, especially in Cheticamp. A true breath of fresh air and absolutely amazing. WOW! This place easily deserves ALL the stars! The food, most importantly, was next level absolutely phenomenal!! The ambiance is soft, airy, relaxed, sophisticated, quirky, and unique! Someone here has a playful spirit! Everything we ordered was extraordinary! The seasonal salad was SO fresh tasting! It was refreshingly different from what I'm used to! Herbs, pickled vegetables, salted blueberries wow! And my favorite, the sweet crunchy seedy crumbles on top! The roasted cauliflower with curried chickpeas was equally dynamic and diverse in it's flavor and texture profile! The shaved almonds and dried fruit was an unexpected delight against the earthy, savory, creamy texture of the rest of the dish! The Cod Au Gratin was top notch as well! Layers of sliced potatoes, mashed potatoes, the perfect amount of cheese and cod. They come together to form a divine example of this classic. A dollop of brown mustard, pickled red onions, and herbs hit additional notes on the pallet. For the dessert, we had the special of the evening; upside down maple cake with a mixed berry compote. SO scrumptious! Perfectly caramelized and baked right into the pastry. It far exceeded my expectations and now is one of my all time favorite deserts ever! They should definitely make this a regular item on the menu! Our server was the absolute best! So attentive, prompt, and helpful! She offered a sample of everything on draft before we ordered our beers which is really above and beyond nice! Knew the menu very well and was managing other roles as well! Someone give this place an award!
