I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Every dish I tried was delicious. If you're up for a spicy challenge, be sure to ask for the Simba special hot sauce—it's incredible! However, I wouldn't suggest it for those who aren't a fan of spicy flavors. View all feedback.
What Jonny Tewelde dislikes about Simba's Grill:
We were initially served a second hot sauce along with our chutneys, but the owner came by to tell us it was too spicy and took it away, which was a bit unusual. While we didn’t get to try that sauce, the mango chutney was fantastic – it had a bold, punchy flavor with a subtle mango finish.
We ordered rice ($5.00) and naan ($3.00); the naan was plain and a bit dense. The kuku choma ($20.00) had a decent char but wa... View all feedback.
I thought the food was absolutely delicious! There were many sauces to try, which made the experience exciting. I can't wait to go back and will definitely remember to take some pictures next time. However, I did have a minor issue: the pitcher for the tamarind sauce didn’t pour very well, creating a bit of a mess as it ran down the side while I was pouring.
We enjoyed dinner at this restaurant and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly friendly! The food was outstanding, and the service was excellent. This place is definitely worth a visit!
The kuku choma ($20.00) had a decent char but was slightly overcooked and dry. The paka ($18.00) featuring tilapia was also overcooked, and the curry lacked depth of flavor, so I would suggest skipping it. The machicha masala ($18.00) was the highlight of the evening, featuring five generous prawns. Although the spinach was a bit bland, it was hearty and satisfying. Overall, it was an okay meal at Simba's Grill.
Our empty glasses went unrefilled for long periods, and when we asked for assistance, our requests were met with indifference. It's evident that customer satisfaction is not a priority here. Sadly, the disappointment carried over to the food. The dishes were bland and unimaginative, making them far from memorable. The flavors were mediocre at best, and the presentation was lacking. Additionally, the portion sizes were frustratingly small, especially given the inflated prices. I had expected high-quality ingredients and flavors to justify the steep costs, but it turned out to be an unjustifiable expense. To make matters worse, the prices on the menu were outrageously high. It felt like the restaurant was capitalizing on its location or reputation without delivering the value or experience one would anticipate at such prices. The lack of quality paired with the high costs left me feeling cheated and dissatisfied. In conclusion, my experience at Simba’s Grill was disappointing. The rude owner, subpar service, mediocre food, and high prices all contributed to a less than satisfactory dining experience. I don’t plan to return, as there are plenty of other restaurants nearby that offer better service, tastier cuisine, and more value for the money.
