This is currently the most affordable place I can find for quality vegetable banh mi. I personally love a lot of Hoisin sauce, as I really enjoy rich and flavorful dishes! The bread is fantastic, but it definitely needs the sauce to shine. I visit here occasionally and often share with my friends just how amazing Vietnamese cuisine is. What User dislikes about Pho 60:
Not as good as it used to be! Where's the fish sauce? The flavors that once made this place great are missing. Everything has become very bland. There seems to be more corn syrup but significantly less flavor. I’m not sure what went wrong, but it’s disappointing. The shrimp chips were also pale and tasteless. Perhaps they had to cut costs? When the food arrived, the summer rolls were standard—nothing special—but the steak was simply terrible: overly fatty and completely devoid of flavor. The servers were two young women who had no personality whatsoever. I even tried to make a little small talk, asking if they were from Vietnam, since my wife and I have visited twice and I love Vietnamese cuisine. I’m quite knowledgeable about Vietnamese food, so when I couldn’t eat the steak, I sent it back. To my shock, the server handed me the check with that same item still on it. I asked her if it was common practice to leave items on the bill when a plate is returned, and she dismissively said there was nothing wrong with the food and that I was mistaken. Disgusted, I told her I had found a roach and that I would be reporting this to the Department of Health. In response, she offered to adjust the bill, but I told her not to waste my time. I left a sufficient tip on the table and walked out. In short, avoid this restaurant at all costs. I’m grateful I didn’t end up getting sick.
The entrance had a small sushi stand on the side up on entering. Cute decor inside, but the AC was not on when we were there on an August afternoon! The Viet ice coffee was OK, nothing great or horrible. The portions were huge, even the extra noodles. It's was in a big bowl alone. The spring rolls were subpar, as if the everything was well minced all together. Would be wiling to try again to see if it would be better.
This place has a pretty good Banh Mi Banh Mi Dac Biet sandwich $6.95). Portion size is good; have a good balance of meat and vegetables. One downside is the bread is a little hard, but still crunchy. Also, good Vietnamese Ice Coffee Can Phe Sua Da $4.50).
