The charming old-fashioned atmosphere of Monk's Cell, both inside and out, drew us to this delightful spot on Beacon Street in Brookline, and the food certainly lived up to our expectations. What User dislikes about Monk's Cell:
Save your hard-earned money and avoid Publick House in Brookline. The bartender and manager are incredibly rude, and I will never go back. Instead, treat yourself to The Abbey across the street, where the service is consistently professional and the food is always reliable. View all feedback.
The first thing that struck my husband and myself was the loud noise. This is not for a quite evening out. Be prepared to barley be able to hear or have a good conversation. Rather long wait for a table. Big social scene for 20-30 year olds. This is a pub/ restaurant for peeps in their twenties and thirties for socializing and meeting. Food was ok but not outstanding and on the expensive side for what it was. Couldn’t get a simple steak which was disappointing. Waitstaff were so over worked and rushed. Doorman told us to go to room to left. Waitress turned us back to the front hostess. Seems like one hand isn’t talking to the other. Wish there were better restaurants in the area.
This is a good place for a tasty and efficient dinner. Service is quick and friendly. Lots of options. Only problem is noise.
Stopped by on a Thursday night for dinner. It was surprisingly crowded but just a 10 minute wait for a table. The food was great and they had a nice selection of food. I wish I got the Moules Frites as they looked so good. Our waiter was also super nice and friendly which made for a pleasant experience. Great beer choices.
We stopped by to try the place out; beers first. They want to sell food, which we (party of 4) wanted appetizers. Told can't sit at empty tables outside per Brookline regulations. Then they insist we can only sit at one of 2 dark tables furtherest back, I ask Brookline regulations. Beer os overpriced with fair selection, service was poor, wouldn't give me itemized bill so I knpw what I'm getting charged. Never back here again; there are a lot better places to go.
