The West restaurant in Galway offers an incredible 5-course tasting menu that is undoubtedly one of the best in the area. Guests rave about the surprises and amazing flavors in each course, as well as the excellent wine pairings. The staff, led by Fergal, provide exceptional care and truly make it a meal to remember. From the standout venison with spiced pear to the praline, caramel, whiskey dessert, every dish is exquisite. This cozy and welcoming spot offers a truly heartfelt dining experience that is perfect for a special occasion or a night out.
Fine dining spends so much time trying to make poor and weird and different foods good, it forgets that... A filet is better than duck meat. A slow roasted pork shoulder is better than a dry pork steak. Potatoes are a gift from God. Beets, cucamelon, fennel bread, butter melted around a candle, and such... Just not the best tastes. Jalapeño and cheese together are just... Why have the cheese (you can 't taste it)? Goat cheese is great... But smothered with a weird salsa that just tasted... green wasn 't my favorite. The sauce baked onto the pork wasn 't good. But what they did make on the menu and feed us on the menu was perfect... For the food they offered. It was the beat duck I 've ever had. (And duck has always been... Bleh). And the fried Kylemore cheese was one of the best things I 've put in my mouth. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere was delightful. Finally... Don 't eat the marshmallows. They are a weird napkin they hydrate in front of you. They WILL cleanse the pallet, but as I learned the hard way... Not edible.
To the entire team at West, I applaud your commitment to excellence and your dedication to making each guest feel valued. We are regulars at Blackthorn because it’s our favourite restaurant in Galway. The food is really special and creative, always tastes amazing. We have never been disappointed. The service is wonderful, especially Fergal who knows every aspect of the menu and guides us through the wine list. Definitely go!
Had a lovely dining experience here. Looking forward to my next visit. Fabulous food. Great staff who know how to look after diners without any fuss.
