This used to be the jewel in the crown of Irish pubs, but it has taken on a neglected aspect. It is tired and dreary and in dire need of some TLC. Loud dance music in mid-afternoon was utterly incongruous. I used to recommend a trip to Morrisseys to all visitors to Ireland, but the days when it won pub of the year (2004) seem very far away. I recently visited Morrissey's pub for a few drinks on a Saturday afternoon while in Abbeyleix with friends. I was taken aback by the noisy atmosphere and the poor service from one of the bartenders. The bar had two large TVs showing racing and rugby, which was fine, but the loud dance music made it all blend into an unpleasant noise. I was shocked and upset by the rude and disrespectful attitude of a skinny young bartender who seemed uninterested in serving customers. When I asked for a pint of cider, he reluctantly poured it without a please or thank you, and threw my change across the counter. He treated other customers in a similar manner. While not all the staff were like this, the overall service was disappointing compared to my previous experiences at the pub. The staff used to be excellent, but now I am hesitant to return. The pizza I had was also mediocre at best.
We had a wonderful time at this delightful, old pub with its cozy ambiance and friendly staff. The place was bustling with activity when we arrived. We will certainly return again soon.
I hadn't been to this restaurant in years, but yesterday's visit was truly memorable. We came in after our victory in Kildare and received fantastic service. We even called ahead to order and the drinks were amazing. The ambiance is something you have to see for yourself. I would give this restaurant a perfect 10/10 rating.
Great pints of stout. Love the bar, could stay there all day! Gorgeous new decor in toilets! Staff so friendly!
