Cafe Millet is a hidden gem nestled in the mountains that locals seem to want to keep to themselves, and I absolutely adore that. While it may be a bit off the beaten path, I assure you that it is well worth the visit. The cafe's atmosphere is fantastic and the food is out of this world. The owner sources fresh, sweet produce from their farm right outside the cafe, and you can taste the difference immediately. It's recommended to make a reservation for lunch (at least a day in advance), but the owner graciously whipped up a meal for me on the same day I called. The cafe also hosts special events and workshops, creating the perfect environment for them. I highly recommend this spot for a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. There's a bus that can take you there, but it only runs once an hour, so plan accordingly – you won't be disappointed.
The cafe millet offers a simple bus ride from kyoto and offers them a lunch in their sunny dining room with views of the agricultural fields of the family. our meal included squash potage, tofu, grilled and picked vegan, vegan pizza, rice with aduki beans, edamame, vegan quiche, green salad, applet, herbal tea/coffee. home baked brot was served with (optional) honey harvested by her hives. the ambiente is quiet, the personal is friendly, the owner speaks English. she kindly offered us to drive us to a nearby village, ohara to visit tempelgartens. portions are moderate, Japanese style (2500 yen.) the beauty of the environment and the quality/presentation of the food makes it worth the price. the caffe sponsors art, music, craft events . reservations required: tel 075-741-3303; Email:millet@cafemillet.jp transport: take the Kyoto bus 34 from the demachiyanagi station. use the exit 7 (scalator from the Keihan line; bus stop e is right in front of the station. take the bus to the end station shiroyama. go 3 minutes directly in front of the farm house on the left side of the main road, down small stung (old road.) there is a sign in front of the house millet we have reserved our meal by email, as we do not have a phone. updated by previous review on Friday, 16 October 2015

It may be a bit off the beaten path, but trust me, it's well worth the visit. The café is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and serves up exceptional food. The owner sources fresh vegetables and fruits from their own farm, creating dishes that burst with flavor. Be sure to make a lunch reservation ahead of time (I believe it's required at least a day in advance), but the owner was kind enough to whip up a delicious meal for me on the same day I visited. Cafe Millet also hosts weddings and workshops, making it a versatile and picturesque venue. I highly recommend this spot as a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. To reach Cafe Millet, simply take the Kyoto Bus 34 from Demachiyanagi Station, exit at exit 7, and look for Bus stop E right in front of the station. From there, take the bus to the end station Shiroyama, and walk 3 minutes in front of the farmhouse on the left side of the main road. Look for a sign that says "Millet" in front of the house.
