Altro Pizza & Caffe - Williamstown
Altro Pizza & Caffe
Description
At ALTRO, we take pride in honoring the artisanal tradition of Italian pizza making. Our pizzas are crafted using locally sourced, high-quality ingredients and the finest Italian produce, such as San Daniele prosciutto, fior di latte, mozzarella di Bufala, fresh basil, and San Marzano tomatoes. We adhere to traditional preparation and cooking methods, upholding the Italian quality standards STG (Specialità Tradizionali Garantite) to ensure that our pizzas are as delicious as those found in Italy. Our skilled Italian pizzaiolo carefully shapes each pizza by hand, creating a 3 mm thick dough disk with a 1-2 cm high crust without the use of rolling pins or mechanical presses. Each pizza is then baked in a wood-fired brick oven at 400-420 °C for approximately 90 seconds. Whether you dine in or opt for takeout, ALTRO pizzas are simply irresistible.

We have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years now and unfortunately tonight will be the last time. The demise of this little eatery is sad as it once was one of the most appealing places in Williamstown when on the hunt for a traditional Italian pizza. Tonight our food was simply dreadful. The Gamberi pizza was scattered with some over cooked, mushy, small prawns and some depressed looking rocket. The pasta was microwaved and lacked any passion or zest and the caprese salad was a dismal attempt at that with one basil leaf as a token effort to make it look half decent. The waiter was dumbfounded when we asked for some balsamic vinegar. Overall disappointed and not ever likely to return or recommend.
He has italian pizza makers and the food is prepared just like in Italy. Nothing like Domino's or the other chain places. Gourmet food.
I am a conosur of good great pizza. This is one of the best I have had. Altro ticked all the boxes and to think that it would be in Williamstown. My kids loved it too.
This is by far the best pizza I have ever had in Melbourne. The wood-fired crust was cooked perfectly, with a light and airy texture that was a standout. The toppings were fresh and perfectly balanced, with the spicy 'Diavola' being the highlight. We also ordered a garlic focaccia and 4 pizzas for our group of 5, and not a single crumb was left. The atmosphere was relaxed and the beer was cold. We will definitely be returning soon!
