We had a very good meal. The food was very well cooked and nicely served. The restaurant was very busy but all the courses arrived in a timely manner. The environs of the restaurant are slightly off putting because it is surrounded by industrial premises BUT do not be put off. Once inside it is well decorated and comfortable. Everything looked from the outside but the service was very poor, two hours later I gave up on the offer of dessert and coffee which they seemed quite pleased about as it was included in my order, and took my leave. Suggested by our hotel we had a stroll from the La Croix.. to the restaurant. On advice I had pre booked a table, good advice as the restaurant is extremely popular. Very good varied menus at various pricing. Something there for everybody. Staff are professional yet at the same time friendly and not averse to un blague Anglaise Delicious food. Thanks Bengy.
We ate here twice in our stay in the area. This is a very good restaurant, serving excellent food, two of our number had gluten free requirements which were very adequately met. The restaurant has a great ambiance, although the garden not so much. We really enjoyed it which is why we went twice.
Sorry but this was the low point of 10 days in the South East of France. On our return journey to Calais, we stayed overnight in Nevers. After booking into our hotel, we looked for a nice restaurant to enjoy an evening meal. We arrived at La Bengy and attempted to access the restaurant. The door was looked and several members of staff, just stared at us through the door and walked away! None of them attempted to help and simply walked away, leaving us standing on the doorstep. We gave in and went back to our car, this was when we realised we were at the wrong door doh! An easy mistake to make as signage was pretty poor but why didn’t the staff help us out and direct us to the correct door? Customer service clearly not a priority pity, as we went to another restaurant a short distance away and their staff and food were fabulous.
Staying for our second visit at the nearby Hotel La Croix De Vernuche on our homeward journey, we booked for dinner at Le Bengy having had a good experience there a couple of years ago (and it is within walking distance of the hotel). We were not disappointed. The food offering was as good if not better than our previous visit and the recommended Sancerre, at 21Euros was fantastic. A restaurant well worth visiting.
We had driven down from Oxford and overnighted at the nearby Hotel La Croix De Vernuche. It was a balmy evening and we sat in the garden and enjoyed excellent food accompanied by a fine Sancerre. Strongly recommend.
