I'm pretty sure that I'll upgrade these guys to 5 stars on my next visit... the loss of the star totally stems from new business hiccups that I doubt will be present in a week's time.On Mondays I have 45 minutes for lunch. I didn't feel like any of my standbys, so I headed off in a random direction and was very lucky to stumble upon Between Two Buns. Perfect. Grab a quick sandwich to go. Great find! There were maybe 10 people sitting at the tables, 3 lined up at the cash.Short, yummy looking menu printed by hand on the blackboard above the sandwich station. I knew right away that I wanted the Cheeky - pork cheek, smoked emmenthal cheese, creamy coleslaw, and caramelized bacon aioli. The soup was tomato basil... so side o' soup for $3 as well. I wasn't sure where to order, so I walked up to the sandwich station thinking it may be Subway-style. The guy at the sandwich station walked away and into the back. Okay, at the till maybe? So, I'm fourth in line and can hear 2nd in line and 3rd in line talking about what they were going to order. Okay, in the right place then. Maybe an "order here" sign would be cool? Maybe I just missed it? I can be a little daft.Clearly, there was something up with the wireless debit/credit machine. The guy at the till was holding it up in the air trying to get a signal. The same process was repeated with the next two customers ahead of me. 15minutes after I walked through the door, my order was taken. Already, I was thinking that I may have to eat quick as my time counted down.Orders started coming up at the sandwich station and everything looked really good, especially the fries. The people coming up to claim their orders, however, were not the guys who had been just ahead of me in line. I look around and realize that nearly everybody sitting at the tables are also waiting for their food. Dammit. I should have looked around a bit before getting into line to order. What I had thought was 3 ppl ahead of me had actually been 13! It was 20 minutes from ordering that I got my sandwich, 35 minutes from walking in the door.I managed to inhale about 3/4 of my sandwich and two teaser spoonfuls of soup before I had to pack it in. It was fantastic. Great flavor, obvious quality ingredients. I LOVED the slaw on the sandwich. It was a little heartbreaking having to scarf it back like cookie monster on a binge. Sadly, I forgot my leftover soup in the fridge and never had the chance to have more than a couple of sips of it, but what I did taste was great.I know that the wait was due to them still finding their feet to deal with a rush. Next time (there will absolutely be a next time!) I'll do a better job of assessing the wait before I go ahead and order.
I have sampled their hot dogs numerous times and have always enjoyed them. I decided to try the veggie terimayo without seaweed for $5.75 after tax, and it was completely worth it.
So what's a Vancouver thing that at one point you could only do in Vancouver? Sink your bucktooth into a Japadog and take a bite out of this Vancouver
The burgers at this restaurant are delicious! I highly recommend trying the jalapeño Burger, just like Tony does. Thank you, Tony!
I am confident that I will give this restaurant 5 stars on my next visit. The only reason I am deducting a star is because they are a new establishment and may need some time to adjust. I only have 45 minutes for lunch on Mondays and decided to try a new place. I stumbled upon a sandwich shop with a short and tasty menu written on a board. I ordered the Cheeky pork cheek sandwich and tomato basil soup. The ordering process took longer than expected due to some issues with the debit/credit machine. It took 20 minutes for my sandwich to be ready, and I had to eat quickly to stay on schedule. The food was delicious and made with quality ingredients. Despite the wait, I will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future.
