When me my wife first travelled to Toronto, we stayed at a Hotel in downtown and planned our breakfast at Senator (without looking at reviews, without searching for other places). Incidentally, this place turned out to be one of the finest we've ever have been to in Toronto in last 4 years. The coffee here is the best we've had in the city, the cozy sitting is awesome the breakfast decent. I checked recently and think this place does not take any reservations which is unfortunate.
