Akimitsu Canada - Toronto
Akimitsu Canada
Description
In the heart of Toronto, a new tempura-focused restaurant has captured attention, but reviews reveal a divided palate. Diners praise the cozy atmosphere and unique dishes like the Asakusa Tendon, featuring hot, freshly fried tempura and a rich dipping sauce. Yet, many feel the execution falls short, citing issues with sogginess, overpowering saltiness, and uneven cooking. While some found joy in the quality of certain elements, such as the vegetable tempura, others lamented the lack of consistency. With potential yet unmet, this establishment may appeal to the adventurous foodie, but many recommend caution before returning.

I ordered the Asakusa Tendon, which included two kinds of vegetables, three types of seafood, and three vegetable tempura, all served over rice, along with a bowl of miso soup. I particularly enjoyed the fish pieces, which were quite unique. The assortment of tempura was served hot and wrapped in a crispy batter. The dipping sauce had a rich depth of flavor, enhanced by bonito flakes and a touch of shishitake. While I found the meal enjoyable, it wasn’t astonishing compared to other tempura experiences I've had. Overall, it was a decent meal, but it didn't quite stand out as much as I had hoped.
I’m thrilled that Toronto now has a restaurant focused on delicious tempura! We tried the Asakusa cream with a tempura onsen egg, and it was fantastic. Next time, I might go for a custom bowl since I’m not a fan of some of the seafood and sweet options, but overall, it was a great experience!
I believe the clam broth here is excellent and quite unique. Regarding the tendon, it should be served separately from any standard garnishes or other tempuras; it really ought to be fresh and made to order. The tempura was decent—definitely hot and freshly fried—but it may have been cooked at a higher temperature towards the end of the night, and it wasn't as tender as I've experienced in other places. The rice was well-cooked, but the sauce was a bit too sweet or overdone for my taste. Overall, it's a good meal, and not many places do tempura well in Toronto.
I tried this place while we were in toronto. decent eating, tempura were perfectly fried, idon was good.
