What a disappointment this place is. We arrived after taking the funicular to the summit, expecting a nice place to have a drink and maybe a snack. The place was busy but with tables that hadn’t bern cleared, with dirty plates and glasses piled up. The counter service was slow and unfriendly and the overall impression was one of not really caring about the visitors. Don’t bother.
After taking the funicular to get the best views of Bilbao, we wandered up the road to Antons Restaurante. We were pleasantly met by our waiter and in the grand old style, dressed in his finery to serve us as it has been done for decades. After some time perusing the menu we ordered and within a flash our food had arrived and we had our classic Spanish style Bacon and eggs with a side of patatas. Great food and great service. In the lovely cool air out on their terrace it was a great experience
Wanted to eat early and couldn't find many options in city near to furnicular so travelled to top and this was the only place around. We chose from the 7 main meals all involved fried foods. The staff were pleasant and helpful and spoke better English than they claimed! Sort of old fashioned cafe food with a Spanish twist my son had bacon, egg and chips with croquettes filled with cheese. I had fried hake, chips and a tomato salad and my husband had pork escalope, chips and coleslaw. With drinks 2 beers and an orange juice it came to 47 euros. It was fine but wouldn't rush back!
This restaurant is located near the top station of the cable car, Funicular de Artxanda. It seemed like the only option up there to grad a cold beer and a sandwich. While the service was a bit on the slow side, the attitude made up for the time waiting. I ordered a sirloin (filete de lomo) sandwich with cheese and bell peppers. It was crunchy and hearty meal. We sat outside, which was a far better place then inside. I'd say the inside tables must be for rainy or cold days only.
Got the fenicular to the top and took us a while to find this, turn right after getting off Fenicular and up some steps, looks like a private residence at first. Myself and my Auntie shared the mixed salad and tortilla (omelette) with a beer and a glass of txakoli (white wine). Came to 19 euros and was the nicest lunch in Bilbao. Waiter spoke ok English and they were very friendly and service was good. Going back on our last day for the same.
