Long John Silver's - Ronceverte
Long John Silver's
Description
Part-hit, part-miss seafood spot: beloved for classic fried items—fish and chips, hushpuppies and popcorn shrimp—some guests praise fresh-cooked flavors and friendly service. Others report inconsistent quality, stale sides, flat drinks, empty supplies, poor cleanliness and indifferent staff. Serious accessibility and parking concerns and at least one complaint of discriminatory treatment mar the experience. Expect casual, affordable meals with takeout and dine-in options; service and atmosphere vary widely by visit.

My experience at this restaurant was deeply frustrating. I visited on Saturday morning, January 11, at around 11:15 AM, and parked near the handicap ramp. While I now understand it wasn't a designated parking spot, there were no clear "no parking" signs, and given the snow and ice on the parking lot, the designated handicap spot was quite far away. There were no other cars or customers around, so I thought it would be safe to park there briefly with my hazard lights on while I assisted my wife, who has a service dog. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I noticed a manager, a woman, and two or three other employees sitting and eating McDonald's food at a table. Almost immediately, the manager began yelling at me for parking there, rather than offering any help. It was quite evident that they saw my struggle; my wife was visibly in need of assistance, wearing dark glasses and using a bright, reflective cane. The manager continued to scream at me, refusing to acknowledge my situation, and threatened to call the police if I didn't move my car. Despite my concerns for my wife’s safety and convenience, I proceeded to place our order, which consisted of a two-piece fish meal and a small order of clams, totaling $20. I specifically requested the meal to be cooked fresh, but within two minutes of ordering, the bag was thrown on the counter without any indication that it had been freshly prepared. The food was warm but clearly not fresh, and it felt like they just served me whatever had been prepared earlier in the day. I attempted to resolve this by calling the customer service number later that week. I spoke with a general manager who claimed to have video evidence of my "wrongdoing." When I questioned him, he focused solely on me parking there and seemed uninterested in understanding my wife's needs. He defensively stated that the manager I encountered had never received a complaint before, which made me suspect there have been others who simply didn’t voice their concerns. Overall, I felt discriminated against because of my wife's disability. I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone with a handicap. I genuinely believe I was in the right to park briefly for my wife's safety, but the staff's attitude made it clear that we were not welcome. I’m sharing my experience to make others aware of how I was treated. **Vegetarian Options:** None **Parking:** Handicap spots are not closer to the entrance. **Service:** Dine-in **Meal Type:** Lunch **Price Per Person:** $20–30 **Food Rating:** 1 **Service Rating:** 1 **Atmosphere Rating:** 1 **Recommended Dishes:** Hushpuppies, Fish and Chips **Recommendation for Vegetarians:** Would not recommend **Parking Space:** Plenty of parking available **Parking Options:** Free parking lot
Tonight around 8 PM, we approached the drive-thru window, only to find a car in front of us waiting for their food. While we were parked at the window, we were shocked to see a female worker handling raw chicken by dipping it into the batter using her bare hands—without wearing gloves! This is extremely unsanitary and could lead to someone getting sick. Naturally, we decided to drive away. Food: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 1.
