The D908/Route de Saint Pons, a small but very well-maintained road in rural southern France, has a most unusual restaurant in the small village of Prémian, which offers truly home-cooked food. Restaurant L'Esclop, which refers to the wooden clogs worn in earlier times, has a view of the Jaur River and outside seating where the river's music enhances your meal -- and the food is cooked across the street from the restaurant, in the owner's home, and carried piping hot to your table from that kitchen! We've eaten there several times on our visits to the Languedoc, and have always enjoyed the food very much. On our latest visit, I relished the local lamb, pureed potatoes, and ratatouille, as well as an excellent chocolate cake with cream, and a tasty starter, accompanied by a good local wine. The menu offers a range of meals -- while we were there, we saw others having the daily special, or an omelet and salad, or just a good cup of coffee.I speak very little French, but the common language of good food always works!
