The dining experience at this restaurant is fantastic. I have visited twice in the past month while in Sacramento and it has quickly become my favorite spot. The lemon sour cream cake is absolutely delicious and a must-try. The staff is friendly and welcoming.

My favorite waiter, Josh, is the best. Eating at this restaurant is definitely my favorite place.

I ordered the French dip sandwich again, hoping for the same spectacular taste I remembered. The roast beef was tender and flavorful before, but this time, it was the complete opposite. The beef was tough and incredibly chewy, reminiscent of shoe leather, and looked unappetizing. I couldn’t believe it was from the same place where I'd previously enjoyed the best French dip sandwich ever. After just a few bites, I had to stop eating because it was that bad. The onion rings were just okay, and the au jus was acceptable, but honestly, when the star of the meal is so disappointing, everything else tends to fall flat. My daughter had the fried chicken with coleslaw. On the positive side, the chicken was tender and nicely portioned, and the warm cornbread was tasty. However, it was overwhelmingly salty, drowning out any other flavors, and the oil oozed out, making it greasy. The coleslaw was described by someone who loves slaw as tasting like leaves and nearly inedible. My other daughter ordered a waffle, which was fluffy and crisp on the outside and quite enjoyable—though she topped it with syrup and chocolate chips, which ruined it a bit for me. Luckily, I got to try a bite before that! We shared the strawberry shortcake, which looked lovely and was made like traditional shortcake—with a biscuit rather than regular cake and fresh strawberries in syrup. The biscuit part was excellent, which many places fail to achieve, so kudos to the baker for that! However, right between the strawberries and whipped cream was a scoop of overly sweet, sticky vanilla ice cream. I couldn't tell if it was homemade or just old, but it overwhelmed the dessert with sweetness, leaving us only able to manage a few small bites each. I’ve never seen strawberry shortcake served with ice cream, so it would have been helpful if that were indicated on the menu to prepare unsuspecting diners like us. A few other notes: they were completely out of pie, which wasn’t surprising given that it was Mother’s Day. However, you’d think they would anticipate the demand for pie on such a busy holiday and prepare accordingly by baking more in advance. But I'm not entirely sure how that works, so I didn’t factor that lack into my low rating. I really hope my latest visit was just an off day for Cornucopia. I’m hoping that my next experience will be closer to my wonderful previous visit. I believe in their potential and will definitely give them another chance, as I recall enjoying their food quite a bit about nine or ten years ago when I came here with my family of six. Keeping my fingers crossed!

So disappointed. We love this place. But to go and have to ask to get the order taken; and not at all busy. 11 a.m. would love to spend 3 hours with servers management. Could do them some good.
