The owner is from Sardinia but has been living and working in the restaurant sector in Murcia for years. He mixes the best of Murcia tradition with some national and international touches. Good products and great service. Prices are good too. Short but good wine list. Good deserts (I love the pears). I prefer it in the inside, although there is only the bar and few high tables than in the terraza because of the music and ambient inside.
Murcia is one of the cities where you can find really a very broad offer of tapas bars and restaurants with a sounded local taste of the region. Verbena is one of the tapas bars near the Cathedral with the proposal to offer something different. The menu they offer includes some typical tapas like ham croquettes, but also new delicious creations. We tasted some cheese, ham croquettes and artichokes. The presentation was very good, the service quick and especially the artichokes had been specially promising finely chopped, with honey, and fried...really good idea. Unfortunately they smelt too salty. The place is decorated very well but the seats are not comfortable, so use it only for a quick visit...The price is in my opinion elevated, we paid nearly 20 Euro for three tapas with very cheap ingredients, a sip of beer (caña) and a regional red wine ... And as others comented too, they included automatically 1,50 Euro of bread. So look at your bill after reclamation they corrected it without any problem...Would we visit it again? I think adjusting a little bit more the prices, Verbena could deserve our visit again...
Saturday night in Murcia and this place was packed and buzzing with atmosphere. The food is divine, the finest ingredients. The menu is in Spanish but luckily we had a Spanish friend with us but even if you guessed, you would still be in a win-win situation. We had some fresh fish in the lightest batter, mushroom with truffle and a cooked egg yolk stirred into it, gorgeous red wine and a plate of wonderful jamon and cheese. We gave up our table for another group and were given an aromatic liqueur on the house (apparently a Spanish tradition). The staff were upbeat and the owner took great care to check that everything was as it should be – and it was. If you're a foodie (and even if you're not), you will love it here.
Awful restaurant and definitely do not suggest anyone to go here. Absolutely terrible service, didn't even bring half of the stuff we ordered, ruined our cake that we asked to keep in their fridge and then dares to charge for everything and more. Plus outside they can't even provide the heaters for all the tables and blankets. Terrible and definitely one of the worst restaurants I've ever been....
