The waitstaff and other employees were friendly and made an effort to enhance our experience, but unfortunately, we faced a long wait for food that didn't meet expectations. The bread was decent, and I enjoyed the Rockefeller oysters, as well as the mussels, which were also okay. However, as shown in the pictures, I ordered additional items that were inedible and had to be sent back. The tomato and basil soup tasted like paste, and the main dish of seared scallops with risotto was quite disappointing. Perhaps bringing in a better chef could help improve the quality of the food.

For our main courses, we ordered lasagna, seafood risotto, and chicken marsala. My sister wasn’t crazy about the lasagna because it had a cream sauce on top; she rated it a 3.75 out of 5. However, my risotto was a complete meal – creamy, flavorful, and loaded with seafood! My husband and brother really enjoyed the chicken marsala; the chicken was incredibly tender! They wished the sauce could be a bit thicker, but overall, it complemented those delightful rolls perfectly!

We initially planned to eat at Bottom’s-Up, but their kitchen was closed, so we decided to try Giovanni’s—known for great food, a nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. We were seated in the bar area at a great table, and our waitress Melina was excellent; we tipped her well. Unfortunately, our meals were very disappointing and did not live up to the standards of the previous ownership. My friend Valery ordered the Short Ribs, which were dry, and her Risotto was drenched in an overly salty gravy. Melina was apologetic and seemed to mention this to someone at the hostess station, but she never returned, nor did anyone else come to discuss our concerns. We waited and enjoyed another glass of wine, but when the check arrived, there was no acknowledgment of our dissatisfaction—no apology, discount, or compensation of any kind. If this is truly a highly rated restaurant in Munster, then you have failed to meet expectations. I have never had a bad experience under the previous management. As for my meal, the Eggplant Parmesan was overcooked and mealy, with plenty of cheese but barely any sauce. It was so dry that reheating wasn’t an option unless I added my own sauce, which would make the eggplant even less enjoyable—a complete waste. Overall, it felt like you did not take care of your customers that evening. No one checked on us during or after the meal, and there was no concern shown. I’m not sure how to conclude this letter except to say: shame on you for not handling your customers’ disappointment that night.

The mashed p... read more Our party of seven had a disappointing experience at Giovanni's. The lobster was served with a pat of unmelted butter, and the steaks arrived cold. The mashed potatoes looked like they were poured straight from a can. The scallops were acceptable but certainly not in the plum sauce described on the menu. Both the pasta and sauce were cold. The prime rib was overcooked to well done and came without any au jus sauce. Our appetizers never arrived, and to make matters worse, it was 5:30 on New Year's Eve when they ran out of pizza. Something was clearly wrong. On top of all that, a 20% tip was automatically added to every bill. We will not be returning to Giovanni's.
