We had parmiggiana to start w... read more Beautiful tiny restaurant with a charming owner, the oldest osteria in Modena serves the tastiest dishes, all fresh and home made. We had parmiggiana to start with, followed by hand made tortellini in brodo and I had to re order the roasted rabbit it was too good (and my kids ate almost of my first order : The desert was sublime and the sicilian owner, who has been taking care of the place for over 33 years a delight! We’ll be back for sure!

Did some r... read more Was here an a food vacation touring Italy with my 85 year old Italian mom. Got into town today and realized most restaurants are closed Monday night. Did some research on the Fork and found this place. In a word: Fantastico! We split a plate of prosciutto which was very good. I had the hand made tortellini in brodo which was spectacular and my Mom had the hand made gnocchi with Gorgonzola which we both agreed was the best we had ever had. Light, airy and amazingly flavorful gnocchi. We then had the roasted rabbit and potatoes and again, was great!! Could not have been happier with the amazing food at this quiet Osteria. Also a very nice wine list. No comment on dessert as we were too full. Basta! You need to go here to eat!!

Modena is described as a “foodie paradise”. And it is. But the highest level is reserved for Frigieri where Mateo treats all patrons as honored guests. ALL his cuisine, from breadsticks through the dessert selections, are made in-house. And all are delicious. We especially loved the veal cheeks braised in Sangiovese and the baccalaureate served on polenta cakes. Don’t miss this Modena gem!

The owner was amazingly gracious, educated, funny and a gifted chef. We learned about origin of dishes. He translated to English for us describing each dish. He was open at 4 pm! We were blessed.
