Great little spot. Small shopfront but it reaches a fair way back with booths as you walk in, a little dining room in the middle and an open courtyard in the back. Nice for cocktails at night and for an afternoon coffee or drink. The nibbles were really tasty too. Smoked salty almonds, arancini balls, bruschetta. All goes well with a cocktail or wine. Definitely worth a visit!

When someone says Perth's small bar scene is alive and well, the first place I always think of is Swallow. Little ol' Swallow on Whatley Crescent. This is what a proper small bar looks and feels like. You could walk through any city in Europe, from Dublin to Lisbon and you would find a Swallow on every good corner. It's a small bar that feels like a small pub, it feels lived in, the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. They take their craft seriously and their knowledge of good booze is second to none. It holds just the right amount of people to give the whole place an intimate vibe and the music direction is always a treat. There is a little open bar kitchen where a very talented chef turns out some very tasty bar menu snacks and each week there is always a twist on a well-known dish, perhaps reinterpretation of a French classic using whatever is fresh and local at the time. Yes, it is a tad expensive, but you don't mind paying the little bit extra here. The attention to detail is there and the passion shines through. Can't recommend enough.

Apparently a jazz bar, though didn't feel like it. Pretty crowded and difficult to find a seat, but eventually found one. Nice beers on tap and friendly staff. Does get crowded though.

This is a great place to come for drinks if there's only 2 or three people, but not the right place for bigger groups. The atmosphere was great and the service was friendly but I felt the food was over priced . There aren't many (if any) other options for drinks in this area so it's a good thing the swallow is open in Maylands!

I discovered this small bar while doing a little trainspotting on Friday morning (and not the type of trainspotting that the movie, and the book, refers to I was actually doing some real trainspotting). Anyway, noting that as well as your typical suburban pub on one side of the tracks, there was this place on the other. Actually, it is more of a wine/cocktail bar than a beer bar, though they do have some decent beers on tap. The interior décor is also really nice, particularly the old train seats that they have in the front room. We even found a nice fireside lounge out the back. Certainly worth checking out.
