Overall a good visit to The George. We were in Lichfield for a concert at the cathedral. Even though we live locally, my wife booked us in for an overnight stay with breakfast the following morning. We had dinner before the concert, and initially we were despondent when the waitress told us there were several items on the menu that were unavailable. However, the choices we made sausage and mash lamb hotpot) were very nice, so no complaints. Self serve breakfast the day after was very good with plenty of choice of continental and cooked. We have been to The George many times over the years, usually for a glass of wine after a mooch round town, and it’s always a pleasant experience. This time was no different.

We visited for dinner 17.02.24 What a lovely meal we enjoyed. The food was delicious, it was presented well, served hot and tasted divine. We could tell the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. Special thanks to our waitress Lilly, who was polite, friendly and made us feel very welcome. She took our orders and our requests, nothing was too much trouble. She was attentive to our table ensuring we were served and cleared after each course at just the right time. Thank you all, we will be back again soon.

The reason this isn't one star is Shona the waitress who deserves better than this graveyard of a restaurant. Food was absolutely the lowest quality stuff I've ever encountered. We ordered steaks that were fatty, tough and terribly cooked (not seasoned, cooked at too low a temperature) the ploughman's sharer is basically stuff from Tesco's warmed up and served with the cheapest sort of bread. We'd have brought it up but frankly it's clear your chef can't do better so what's the point. Oh, we ordered pulled pork that wasn't. I suspect it was leftovers. Not sure the chef knows what pulled pork is. Another thing while we're at it, the other guy who bought our wine didn't even bother to open it. The place had four tables on a Saturday night, and one of them was complaining about the food to the staff all night. Maybe the reason this is the emptiest restaurant in Lichfield is because it has an old fashioned menu and quality that would shame a Wetherspoons. Will never return .

We came here last night for a friends birthday and we were impressed with the food. We had the Kiev and cottage pie which was homemade and tasted lovely. Our starters were mackerel pate and soup and again these were lovely. It’s pub grub but made well. Service for drinks was a bit slow but the staff were friendly.

I decided to treat us to a carvery for our Sunday lunch. I had seen good reviews about the George so chose to go there. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The beef was fatty and tough and the vegetables were all mediocre. Really expected better. Have had better at cheaper chain of carvery pubs!

The George restaurant delivers a culinary experience that oscillates between disappointment and delight. While some diners lamented the slow service and high wine prices, others praised the attentive staff and fresh, flavorful dishes. The carvery lunch, though underwhelming for some due to overcooked meats and lackluster vegetables, found redeeming qualities in the turkey and gravy. Starters received mixed feedback, yet many appreciated the innovative menu and quality ingredients. Overall, The George boasts a pleasant atmosphere, commendable service, and the potential for a satisfying meal, making it worth a visit, provided the kitchen maintains its standards.

Unfortunately the food left a lot to be desired- would not recommend. The cauliflower cheese was still frozen- when we told this to the staff, we only got an ‘oh no’ comment. Wouldn’t waste your time on a visit.

A group of five adults enjoyed a Sunday carvery to celebrate a birthday, Our waitress Shona was friendly and efficient. The food was tasty and well-cooked. We all ordered two courses, some a starter and a main course others a main and dessert. We felt it was excellent value.
