Celebrated my parents' 60th wedding anniversary with 18 people on Sept 3rd. We planned an intimate dinner with family and friends. Chef Hughes was easy to work with to establish the menu and the flow of the evening. Deborah and Kyle, the servers that evening, were terrific and addressed everyone's needs (to include the toddler we had with us). Everyone enjoyed trying out a different restaurant (none of us had been there before), enjoyed their meal and the evening. Hope to get back there soon!
It was a perfect experience. The service was beyond belief great and friendly and just super accommodating. The food was eye crossingly divine...the perfect blend of creative and bite worthy. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.
Eventually, a small cup of something was brought to my husband. It resembled espresso, but after some inquiries, the waiter finally disclosed that it was a complimentary pea soup. It was mediocre at best and hardly resembled traditional pea soup. When our appetizer finally arrived, we were disappointed to find that it tasted like cheap canned crab on subpar guacamole with a few pieces of mango tossed in. We endured an excessive wait for our main dishes, and by the time they arrived—without any salad—over an hour had passed since we first sat down. The entrees were lackluster and certainly not worth the $35 price tag. While my tenderloin was tender, it was smothered in a sauce that alarmingly tasted like McCormick's brown gravy mix. As we were eating, we were horrified to see several cockroaches crawling up the wall right beside our table. We immediately decided to leave, but once again had to wait for our waiter to settle our bill, despite there being only us and one other table in the entire restaurant. When he finally arrived, we pointed out the roaches, and he stated he would notify the chef, who had supposedly just had the place treated for pests. Our bill came to over $80, and that was without dessert, drinks, or even a tip. It was a dreadful waste of money and a significant disappointment to our anniversary plans.
It's important to mention that reviews for Restaurant 213 tend to be quite divided—people either love it or they don’t. If you're used to a casual diner vibe rather than a fine dining experience, you might overlook the special touches that make 213 unique. However, if you appreciate fine dining, I wholeheartedly recommend trying Chef Jim Hughes's remarkable dishes. The menu features an eclectic range of options, including seafood, meats, and poultry, so there's something to satisfy every palate. Be sure to try the grilled Romaine salad—it's an absolute must! All steaks are Angus and can be cooked to your preference, which is a nice change from many seafood-centric restaurants. Trust me, the drive from Ocean City is well worth it!
