This place was the only place all 4 of us (me, my parents, and my fiancé unilatterally agreed was “fantastic”! The staff, the prices, the food, the environment, the views, the wine, and the sweet Hotel dog, Gino, all make this place a gem. We loved it so much we visited two nights in a row. Will not forget it! Grazie!
The food was delicious and authentic. Their malfatti pasta (unwrapped pasta with filling) was unique and tasty, while their mushroom risotto was the best that we had in Florence. The manager was very friendly and provided us great service, even offering us a complimentary taste of their local Tuscan wine to go with our Florentine steak. Finally to end the meal, we had the in-house Tiramisu which was top notch.
My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon in 1978 (ignore the travel date below that was mandatory). We were driving through Italy without any itinerary and no hotel reservations when we arrived in Florence on the May Day weekend. We stopped in a tourist office in town and were told after many phone calls that there was not one hotel room available in Florence for the entire weekend (these were pre-internet times). There was, however, one room available for 1 night up in the hills overlooking Florence if we had a car to get there. It was not a long ride and when we arrived we were greeted by the friendliest people who set us up with a room and dinner in their restaurant. The room itself was very modest, but comfortable the view down the hills into Florence was spectacular from the veranda. The meal was memorable and we've incorporated a couple of dishes into our special occasion menus at home. The following morning we tried to book another room but were told that they were full for the weekend also. They made many calls for us to no avail until they thought of the convent down the road that might be able to accommodate us and they accompanied us there to introduce us to the monk who was in charge who agreed to our staying in this historic convent built in 1490 for about $5 a night thus saving our trip from a disaster. We returned years later with our children to the Dino and found the same people working there and the same hospitality!
This restaurant has become a firm favourite with the whole family. This time we were there for Sunday lunch. It was packed so do book. But despite that the staff were friendly and smiling throughout, the food arrived on time, was hot and as always delicious. Malfatti burro e salvia, meat grilled to perfection, crispy mixed fried seasonal vegetables and a homemade torta della nonna to finish. Prices are more than reasonable. All of which explains why it is so popular with the locals.
