Costa Verde - Sao Joao Da Pesqueira

Juicy, tasty steak. Nice wine. Food was so flavoursome. No English spoken but Google translate and pictures helped! Waitress was friendly.

We were staying in the hotel next door and decided to take a chance on this restaurant we're so happy that we did! While the owners spoke little English, and we spoke even less Portuguese, the welcome was warm and hearty. We managed to get by with Google Translate and our lovely waitress, the teenage granddaughter of the owners, who spoke good English and was very attentive. Her grandmother was in the kitchen and kept popping out to make sure we were happy, while the cheerful grandfather helped us choose a beautiful bottle of red from a nearby vineyard. It was one of the nicest wines we tried on our five day Douro trip! Don't be fooled by the more rough and ready bar area behind it is a charming restaurant with wood tables and lovely tiles on the walls. The owners were incredibly accommodating with our dietary requests. My husband is a vegetarian and, a pescetarian, I fancied a night off the fish. They suggested making us a few different off menu dishes but we opted for a tomato pasta. The sauce was freshly made in the kitchen and very tasty. We ate it with a crunchy and perfectly seasoned mixed salad. We were treated to melon and some yummy figs with nuts (I think they were crushed almonds) to start. For non veggies there was an extensive a la carte menu of meat and fish dishes with sides. There were starters and deserts too but we were tired after a day of hiking so didn't indulge too much. The price was also very reasonable! For our meal, an exceptional bottle of wine and two beers we paid around 40 Euros. If you are staying nearby then definitely seek this lovely restaurant out.

You can find amazing spots when you get out of the tourist route. That is the case of Costa Verde, an amazing place we indescribable food and wine. Do try the ham entrée and the dessert of regional cheese with jam.

Paramos cuando estában a punto de cerrar, nos abrieron y pusieron leña al fuego para nosotros. La comida riquísima, el trato excelente. Lo que se pide para un restaurante!!

J'ai mangé très bien, du poulet en sauce aux petits pois, j'avais le choix entre les frites maison ou purée, les ris de lait maison, le pudding ou les fruits de saison. prix correct
