This was a nice restaurant with friendly service. The breakfast buffet was quite limited and nothing special but it was OK and pretty much as expected. They could do a little more to make it a very good restaurant.
We visited for a dinner last Thursday and we really enjoyed the food. We had the goat cheese starter and the pigeon wood- both great and for main the rib eye which was fabulous! Cooked to perfection really. The waitress Adriana was friendly and suggested the perfect wines to match our food. Very very good dinner. Well done to the chef and the restaurant staff!
We booked this restaurant for an anniversary dinner as we thought it would be something special, unfortunately we both left feeling a little under whelmed. On arrival, it takes a long walk through corridors, staircases and lifts to get to the restaurant so be warned. We were sat next to a window but it was more like a mirror so we didn't get the view as was expected. It was also very quiet and the lights were very bright so there wasn't much atmosphere. When the food arrived, it was just okay we bought the tasting menu and feel that for the price you can get a lot more in other places in Edinburgh. The best part of the visit was the staff who were very friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately we wont be coming back.
Service was good but food was bland and dry. Windows were mirrored so no view whatsoever on an evening. Very quiet so no atmosphere. Such a pity.
We went for dinner with friends who had booked thinking that the restaurant is situated in the roof garden of the Glasshouse Hotel. It is not, and is at the end of a very long corridor in the hotel. The restaurant windows are almost mirrored so at night there is absolutely no view Observatory??The food was very average. The service was also average. No more to say.
A recent dining experience at this hotel's restaurant left much to be desired, with tasteless soup, overcooked main courses, and slow service. The afternoon tea booking process was frustrating and unresponsive, while a visit for a light meal had mixed results, including dry wings. However, the Picnic Tea was a delightful experience with excellent service and food. The hotel itself impressed with spacious rooms and beautiful views. Overall, the staff provided fantastic service, making for a memorable stay and leaving guests eager to return.

After reading beautiful reviews about the afternoon in the glasshouse, I booked the scottish afternoon tea' for 2 as tasty bites for my daughter-in-law 30. birthday for her and my son. when I was in edinburgh the week before, I called and paid for in advance. Unfortunately, on the day my daughter-in-law, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was uneasy and not able to travel to edinburgh so that the booking had to be cancelled. I asked the service manager at 2 locations by e-mail if a refund would be possible. if I had not paid, there would have been no problem about a refund, and the hotel would have just had to confirm the cancellation that I would certainly have happened from time to time. I had a first answer from the service manager said he would look into them, but on a second email per week later, I still have to have an answer or a refund. I guess last minute cancellations must be annoying and expensive for hotels, but sometimes they are completely unavoidable. Top tip not for services prepayment unless they have to!
My mother saw this restaurant on a list of the best afternoon tea in edinburgh, so we booked a table. I wish we hadn't. the sandwiches were clear in a refrigerator and were very cold, and the fillings tasted unseasonal. the brot was sponge and bland....The apron came without camouflaged cream and some of the foods on the stands simply do not match the description on the menu, or simply cannot be found. the real tee was nice to drink. although the view of the restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere is sterile and unpleasant, a bit like in an airport. we will not come back.
We have booked the restaurant for a birthday meal. we arrived with a 90-year-old flyer lady and introduced a wheelchair to bring my nuts into the taxi. at the arrival was a woman who did not visit the hotel, broke out and sat in the NUR wheelchair that belongs to the hotel! (5 star? the doorman was extremely abrupt with my wife when she advised that we were looking for a pre-booked wheelchair. as a result our taxi meter went up and my older mother was disturbed. the service manager gave 10 pounds in the direction of our taxi fees, but in view of the stress caused, I would have thought that a full refund would have been more contemplative. during the booking of the restaurant we asked to sit with a beautiful view. we sat at the table and saw a corridor down. not only that, the hotel is so badly designed that we had to take my mother through a labyrinth of lifts, including a personal only lift to reach our goal not very 5 stars when your disabled? the culinary experience was just as bad. it was very slow, small in portions and eat and drink overpriced for what they receive. I had fish and the next day I had severe illness and diahorrea. I should have reported it to the health inspectors, but I was too weak and could not be disturbed. I'll never be dining again! on the plus side the reception staff were very attentive, but the waiting staff needed to retrain and possibly better speak English. I am sure that the administration will either ignore this review or post its standard response, I am sorry that you visit was not happy, etc. etc. why not act on the kritiken instead of on standard responses. it can show that as a company they activities care! you are not evil star!
Booked in juli to come in feb for afternoon tee .... looked on line for the menu and it appeared delicious and very excited! Imagine our effort to find it had changed tho not on line?! very disappointed to be given aubergine sandwiches, a...Schmuck of carrot cake without topping, which actually tasted more like zimt if they have allergies, check the day by wrestling!
We could not fault the whole experience. We were greeted and shown to the restaurant, which was a lift and a walk through the whole hotel, which only made us wish we had booked a room. We were here for a pre-theatre meal, so it...was quiet at the time. I had noted on the booking that my partner was lactose intolerant and we have never been more catered for. They had already spoken to the chef and decided what they could offer us. This is rare, usually its a lot of backwards and forwards when ordering. The staff were so helpful and professional. We also really enjoyed the music. We had calamari and a terrine to start. With duck and a mushroom polenta stack (vegetarian) for mains. we were also served with gorgeous bread (i forget the flavour but nothing like I've ever had) and an amuse bouche which was a spicy tomato soup. Also the price for these 2 courses was reasonable £18.50 per person. Maybe slightly larger portions would be preferred, but i understand fine dining isn't this way most of the time. Recommended and will be visiting again. I wished we could stay longer and we really want to book a room next time!

Not quite what we were expecting. On arrival at reception it was lovely, but we were then directed to the lift which took us up to the level The Snug is on. We had to walk along a long corridor of bedrooms and suites to reach The Snug. It felt like our table had been set out of the way, we were in an alcove next to the emergency exit. We very much felt that the area was for hotel guests only and not for general members of the public. The menu was limited and not as expected, but nice. We couldn't find the menu online and to be honest, if we had, we possibly would have gone elsewhere.
Staff were amazing and helpful. Food was delicious. Will be back
Food was a let down- the savoury foods were bland and did not as advertised, have any Scottish style things(except tough dry smoked salmon bagel thing). The cakes were ok- scones nice. Went here about 4 years ago and we were sat on the glasshouse so had a nice view and food was excellent but this time we were put in the snug Which is just a large hallway between hotel rooms so did not get the view and afternoon tea was just not as good so but disappointed.
