Description

Nestled in the small town of Dulce, Hillcrest stands out as a reliable dining option amidst limited alternatives. Despite some inconsistencies in service and food quality, many patrons appreciate the friendly staff and consistently good meals, particularly the steak tacos and unique local dishes like the sheep herder sandwich on fry bread. While the restaurant has received mixed reviews—ranging from average to commendable—its inviting atmosphere and decent portions make it a notable choice for visitors. For those traveling in the area, Hillcrest offers a comforting respite from the sparse culinary landscape, despite suggestions to explore nearby towns for additional dining opportunities.

The staff is friendly and the food has been consistently excellent every time I have dined here. In this small town with limited dining options, I am glad that Hillcrest is a reliable choice. The steak tacos are delicious and prepared beautifully. I have enjoyed multiple meals at this restaurant and have never been disappointed.

We had a good dinner at this restaurant previously. The pizza was decent. However, our breakfast experience was disappointing. The sausage seemed to be microwaved and very hard. The biscuits and pancakes appeared to be stale. The cooks struggled to make an over easy egg correctly. Despite this, the service was excellent. Our server was friendly and accommodating with fixing orders, which is why we are giving them an extra star.

We spent one night at the Wild Horse Casino Resort in late June 2017. I booked the hotel to austensibly see the Jicarilla Apache Museum, which I later found out did not exist because they lack the space to display the historic items--a disappointment. The hotel is outdated and the first thing that hits you when you walk in the door is the cigarette smoke. The room was relatively smoke-free and comfortable. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel and the food was a 2+ and the menu not very diverse. There are not many restaurants in Dulce; I would recommend eating in Chama or Farmington. Overall, the hotel is a 2. I would not stop here again and would either stay in Chama or push on to Farmington--1.5 hrs. west. We were traveling east to west.

The service was terrible and the food was not good. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant at all costs. Instead, try going to the Players Bar and Grill. It is much better there.
