The owner is always hospitable and friendly, and always asks if the food is okay, even though the restaurant is always busy and there's only one server. The owner is also incredibly generous, which makes the stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended. I will always come back whenever I have the opportunity to go to Dettelbach.

It took five minutes for the owner to come out of the kitchen, and by then, other guests were also waiting. We weren't greeted warmly, but we were allowed to sit at a table (other guests were sent away later). Then, first, the three guests who only wanted to order takeout pizza were served. We already realized that the kitchen was very busy with orders and it would take a while. So we prepared ourselves for a long wait, and that's exactly what happened. We had cordon bleu, which was OK. But the linguine with monkfish in a white wine sauce was disappointing. A few pale pieces of fish in a completely bland and flavorless sauce, with a bit of parsley and two sprigs of arugula on top. At least the linguine wasn't overcooked, so at least I didn't have to go home hungry. When we asked, we told the owner, who offered us salt and pepper and a free cappuccino. He apologized – since guests don't call and make reservations in advance, he couldn't plan his capacity well. Besides, the takeaway was so busy today. And unfortunately, the chef could just be having a bad day. Do we understand his situation? Yes. Will we come back? Not really. Because who can guarantee that the chef won't forget to season again and the kitchen won't be overwhelmed by pizza orders? At most, we'll pick up a pizza, because it seems to be good based on the reviews. Addendum to the owner's comment: On the Sunday evening of August 4, 2024, when we were there, there wasn't a single guest outside due to the weather, and the adjoining room was empty; we looked at both. And I didn't wait until afterward to complain about the bland food. But I didn't feel like waiting another 30 minutes for a replacement dish.
