Description
Welcome to Hobbsons, where tradition meets a warm and inviting atmosphere in both Lincoln and Cambridge. With a heritage spanning over 40 years, formerly known as Browns Pie Shop Restaurant, we’ve proudly carried forward a legacy of lovingly handcrafted British food. In Cambridge, nestled in the heart of the city centre just moments from its iconic colleges, Hobbsons offers a cosy space where locals, students, and visitors from near and far come together to enjoy classic British dishes. Our specialty lies in home-crafted pies and the famous haslet sausage roll, all made in-house by our talented chefs using carefully sourced ingredients. Complement your meal with a British Afternoon Tea, featuring exquisite teas from Fortnum Mason, adding a true sense of occasion to your visit. Our Lincoln restaurant is steeped in history, housed in a building with nearly a century of stories. Once home to T. E. Lawrence—Lawrence of Arabia—during his time at RAF Cranwell, the venue has seen many lives including a boarding house, bookshop, antiques dealership, toy shop, and since 1987, Browns Pie Shop. This rich heritage gives Hobbsons Lincoln a character that’s truly one-of-a-kind, surrounding you with the evolving life of the city as you dine. At both locations, our commitment remains the same: proper pies, classic British dishes, exceptional quality, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re visiting Cambridge’s vibrant university city or historic Lincoln on Steep Hill, you’ll receive a warm greeting and a memorable meal. We are recovering from a fabulous evening. Despite arriving a little late and a little tipsy we were wonderfully looked after. The service was impeccable and the standout dishes were the oysters, the banana bread pudding, the wild mushroom lasagne and the pork belly...in fact everything really! **Dine-In Dinner Review** **Price per Person:** £30–40 **Food:** ★★★★★ **Service:** ★★★★★ **Atmosphere:** ★★★ I enjoyed a delightful dinner at this restaurant. The food was outstanding, earning a perfect five stars for its quality and flavors. The service was equally impressive, with attentive and friendly staff who made the experience even more enjoyable. However, the atmosphere was a bit lacking, with a three-star rating, as it could use some improvements to make it more inviting. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience!

We had an early dinner at 5pm. Chose venison, and partridge, pies both delicious, served very fast on hot plates with great selection of side veg and flavoured mash. Loved the music soundtrack (mellow Cat Stevens and similar) and beautiful decor gave a lovely ambience. We were not rushed; service was very friendly. The Sherry Trifle needed much more sherry to match the menu description, and we would like Rabbit Pie back on the menu please. We really enjoyed our visit and recommend Hobsons (note new name). Good quality food, as long as you like pies. Very reasonably priced. Comfy seating. Reasonable drink selection. Small location. Not wheelchair accessible. Seems understaffed as long wait between each interaction but friendly when you saw them.
