I didn 't like it very much since the waiters were better than the food and I asked for some fries and their response was you 're not at McDonald 's, if you want shitty food, go there. They have never spoken to me so badly and even less if it is in a restaurant of such quality. I will not come back. We visited Uma for an anniversary trip to Barcelona – having tried to find a great place to eat that catered to vegetarians for my wife, we stumbled across Uma, which unlike some other places in the city let us ‘mix’ vegetarian and meat on the same table. Well placed in the city, with a really really intimate and quiet feel, with an open kitchen, it’s a really beautiful setup of only four or five tables that makes every table feel like the chef’s table. If you’ve a loved one that’s a vegetarian, you know the frustration at a high end eatery when you’re brought out a magical creation and they get brought out a sliced tomato or something similar. No such thing here at Uma Iker runs a home garden where he grows what he uses at Uma, and it was really special to be able to enjoy a variation of each dish together (I’ve been trying to recreate a truffle orzo rice he made especially since we got home from the trip! We had the long wine paring alongside (there’s no ‘menu’ here, just the constantly changing tasting menu based on seasonal tastes and flavours which was beautiful, and complimented every dish so well. Having gone onto Google to look at reviews, I note a few people taking issue with arriving late and taking issue with not being treated as such – the booking, website and detail is clear that the menu is cooked for all tables at once, so arriving at the point at which Iker has started preparing the food will mean that you need to ‘join in at the point you arrived’ – but the space is so nice I’d suggest arriving early anyway and enjoying the atmosphere!
