A very small restaurant across from the Opera House that specializes in Italian food but serve a definitely-German buffet. I was in on a rainy Sunday and the buffet may only be on Sundays though the serving table looks very permanent. I ordered pizza... yikes! This was the worst pizza I have ever had. Mushy, tasteless crust covered with sliced tomatoes and poor-quality Mozarella. The pizza had almost no taste! How can anyone with flour, water, and an oven make a crust this bad? The coffee was good. Go for the coffee but avoid the pizza!

The Opera Café is located directly next to the main theater in Aachen. Although named a café it is actually a full blown Italian restaurant (with coffee and cake on the side). The front of the restaurant (by the window) is set-up like a typical café (lounge chairs coffee tables). Whereby, the back of the restaurant is more the dining area. I personally find the café area to be modern with nice furniture. The dining area has old tables, chairs, carpet, general decoration and smells a little musky. If you do decide to order a warm meal I highly recommend sitting eating in the café area. The food available is very average. Nothing special, yet nothing terrible. I typically order a salad when there. Salads with chicken or beef are always my first choice at any restaurant. At the Opera Café I have ordered both and found the meat to be over cooked and very dry on both occasions. I have also ordered pizza which was nothing more than average. The best I have selected from the menu is the Schnitzel. I have not tried the cake selection nor desserts. The service is friendly (again, average). They do not accept credit cards! Cash or EC card only. Prices are the same as any good Italian restaurant. If you are going to the theater, feeling hungry and don't have much time until the performance starts, then a quick bite at the Opera Café could be an option.
