Was Anonym at D-Beatstro a mag?
I haven't been this delighted by a restaurant in Toronto. Period.Everyone knows Bunner's is a joke but it's so popular that the bar for vegan baked goods is super low. Most places don't seem to be making any effort for those of us who actually like food. Enter this place. In one sitting my friends and I were astonished to find that everything (made on site and sometimes, if you're lucky, fresh out of the **** oven!)... View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about D-Beatstro:
If you are vegan this is the place to be.If you are not vegan, you should try this place. The people were friendly. Service was fast. The tumeric latte was very good. The home fries were excellent. Donuts and muffins and other treats looked good. I had the ham and egg sandwich - it was good, made to order in house but I recognized it was all processed.Difficult to find their menu and their hours online - best is the FB... View all feedback.

Most places don't seem to be making any effort for those of us who actually like food. Enter this place. In one sitting my friends and I were astonished to find that everything (made on site and sometimes, if you're lucky, fresh out of the **** oven!) we tried was luxurious, meticulously executed, and baked to perfection. Shame on everyone else. THIS is how you regale your patrons with affordable luxury.Hey, the coffee is also excellent. This is a gem. Discover it.
We popped in on Sunday for brunch and we were pleasantly surprised by the food and the ambience. Black walls and ceilings might sound dismal, but in person it's a trendy backdrop for some stellar art pieces. I ordered the breakfast sandwich; t'was okay but the star-of-the-show was the sexed up potatoes. For an additional $2.50 one can upgrade their home fries to some bean/cheesy/faux sour creamy madness. It was so tasty I lost time. My partner ordered the house huevos rancheros, and they were also stellar. The music was great, our little raven-haired server was lovely, and the coffee was memorable. I'm not a fan of paying at the counter, only because it makes me feel like a retail customer rather than a guest being hosted for a meal, but the intention is to sell you on a donut as you depart. A respectable goal, but we didn't bite. Something about selling donuts at a shop right across the street from Toronto's largest and dearest vegan donut shop gave me a no feeling. I may get over it eventually; I'm a sucker for a good vegan pastry.
I stopped into D-Beatstro on Monday night. It is a funky little place with a bit of an edge. I believe they describe themselves as a Vegan/Punk/Café. I am a carnivore so I was a bit concerned about their menu. I ordered the BLT with garlic mayo and coconut bacon and a chai tea with coconut milk. It was delicious. Had I not known that I was eating vegan I could have sworn that I was eating real bacon. The chai tea was very good as well and I believe the barista stated that they make their own chai syrup. The service was very friendly and efficient. The crowd ranged from the business casual types, artist, musicians and what appeared to be a fan base for one of the bands. The crowd was quite eclectic. Just after I finished eating there were musicians setting up and for a $5.00 cover charge I was able to stay and listen to some music. The first band, “Joncro” consisted of a drummer and a guitarist. They were quite good, playing covers and a couple of original songs. The second band, “The Alcoves” consisted of 2 guitarists, a bassist and a drummer. They were 4 teenagers from Mississauga and man were they good. Played all original songs. They were so good that I bought their CD “Cardboard” from a guy the band called Dr. Phil. There was a 3rd band, Monarch that played as well but I was unable to stay for them. I heard that they were quite good as well.Anyway, back to D-Beatstro, good food, great service, good price and great music. Will definitely be going back. You need to check it out.
I love their breakfast, it has all the flavors I crave and is perfectly balanced on the plate. And the best part is that it's reasonably priced.
